CWT Chickamauga 2018 Tour - the official thread

Hmmmm........ I have just about talked my husband into a trip to Franklin and Shiloh next fall, with bribes of many distillery tours and promises that he will NOT have to go the Grand Ole Opry. Is it feasible to work this trip into the Chickamauga weekend? Will have to check maps. Are there things to do in the area that are not related to the Civil War so he won't be completely glassy eyed by the time we finish the trip?:spin:

Yes! There's plenty to see and do in and around Chattanooga that has nothing to do with the ACW.

I have never done a winter Civil War battlefield. Is late October considered winter in the Chattanooga area? I take it Chattanooga usually does not have snow on the ground in late October. I guess I should call it a late fall tour.

No, silly. It's not a winter tour. It's a tour without excessive heat, that's all.

Plug in your Michigan home's anti-pipe freezing mechanism and come on down, by all means.

Most of my CW battlefield tours are in January-March and June so this will be different for me. Went to Mansfield,LA on August 29,2015. That's the closest I have come to a fall tour.

Winter down here consists of those 3-4 unpleasant days between fall and spring

Heh! It was 4 degrees F this am when I got up, so that sounds like a heatwave!

More than you can eat is included

After coming out of my turkey coma this afternoon,I got out a pen and paper and scrolled through this thread and my private conversations. 8 members, including myself, have confirmed making hotel reservations. At least 12 other members have confirmed that they will be there or plan to. What a great start.

I know many members have to schedule time off at work or arrange their calendars, for other reasons,to attend our event. I hope by the beginning of next spring, that we've met our room block and need to add more rooms to the block. We should have the meet-and-eats planned by then too.

We already have one more confirmed guided tour by a CWT member. I will amend the info top-post to add that when I get to my desktop computer again.

If you are going to Nashville, you need to see Fort Negley if it is still there. The city is trying to sell the property for development. Also, on the way to Chattanooga you could take a short break at Hoover's Gap. It is at the 93 or 97 mile marker off of I 24 Beach Grove-Bell Buckle exit. The Interstate goes right thru the middle of that battlefield. It is well worth the 15-20 min short stop.
It is owned and Maintained by the SCV. The marker for the 18th Indiana can be seen on my avtar

I am hoping to attend as Chickamauga is a battlefield I have not visited yet and I haven't been able to attend any of the trips to Gettysburg the past two years. October usually works better for me than September so I am hopeful this will work out!
I was not able to attend the Gettysburg gatherings either. Looking forward to our Chickamauga gathering.

I will be there! Just booked my room and I will be flying in to Atlanta, Ga. I will rent a car and drive on up. If anyone is interested, I have an extra queen bed and would be willing split the cost. Also, have not booked my flight yet, but if anyone is also in need of a ride, I am renting a car from Atlanta, Ga. Just PM me! Looking forward to seeing all of you! You better show @PeterT

Was/is it cheaper to fly into Atlanta than Chattanooga? Gonna make a stop at Kennesaw Mountain on the way to Ringgold?
