CWT Chickamauga 2018 Tour - the official thread

The organizational meeting of the D H Hill Fan Club will be held in the lobby on Friday evening. Time to be announced. At this time, there are five members......in the entire world. :bounce: Myself, @OldReliable1862 @Nathanb1 @BillO and @RochesterBill

Our President @OldReliable1862 and our Vice President @Nathanb1 have asked that we use this gathering as an opportunity to recruit some new members. There is no cost to join so notify any of us if you are interested in joining. :nah disagree:

In order to advance the Fan Club and collect dues, we need a Treasurer who has a complete understanding of D H Hill mathematics. :D Hey - at least it's not the Bragg Fan Club.

I was like, "What there IS a D H Hill Fan Club!" I'm not a fan though:giggle: But there could never ever be a fan club of Early or Bragg - neither "swoonworthy" (as I started in Ladies Tea) or anything else worthy:cold:!

I have booked a room for me and Jody (and Rocky) using the CW8 group code. It's really easy.

Everyone please be sure to use the instructions provided in the pinned post and enter the CW8 group code to make your reservations. If we fill the block using the group code, the hotel will comp a meeting room which can be used for lectures and book signings.

The timing of the previous Gettysburg CWT events was such that I could not attend, but the end of October is when I usually take a vacation. I made an overview visit to Chickamauga last year, but a deeper revisit should be interesting (good way to celebrate my 30th birthday) as well as the chance to meet a bunch of you folks.

Unfortunately, I will have to wait until summer before I can book because the Florida Lighthouse Association fall meeting might be that week and that takes priority for me.

I have booked my room. Not 100% sure of getting there with a wedding in the wings, but I'm not ruling it out either.
Keep us posted. I am sure a member could help with ground transportation. I'm guessing you would be flying in to Chattanooga.

I am going to Florida for a couple weeks in January and will probably stop at a few places on they way there and back. I guess there is no need for me to stop at the Chickamauga battlefield as one of my stops.
Outstanding sir.

I have family in the Florida panhandle. Thinking about a late winter trip there myself.

That's a great idea. My 60th birthday is on a Friday in November next year. You just inspired me to start planning a battlefield visit on my birthday. I am guessing it will be somewhere in Arkansas or Mississippi.

Hmmmm........ I have just about talked my husband into a trip to Franklin and Shiloh next fall, with bribes of many distillery tours and promises that he will NOT have to go the Grand Ole Opry. Is it feasible to work this trip into the Chickamauga weekend? Will have to check maps. Are there things to do in the area that are not related to the Civil War so he won't be completely glassy eyed by the time we finish the trip?:spin:

Franklin is about 2.5 hours from Chickamauga. Shiloh is about 4.25 hours away. I'm guessing there are some fun things to do in Chattanooga that are non-CW related.

You have to see Ruby Falls. Years ago my young daughters had seen signs along the highway. The must have read See Ruby Fall 50 times. We of course had to go into the cave so they could "See Ruby Falls".

I remember those signs well from our family trip to Florida in 1978. They seemed to be around every bend of the highway.

There is a BBQ joint in Chattanooga that has billboards everywhere too.

Not for free I'm guessing. He probably does these on weekends:

Ogden is the Staff Historian. He does special events. This weekend and last he is doing Battlefield walks for the 154th Battle of Chattanooga. They are free. Point Park charges a 5$ entrance free. The only facility in the Chickamauga Park System to do so.
