Lee Those Trunks...

That's interesting considering that you seem to be injecting your own fantasy into documents that you don't know the content of.

I have injected nothing into anything only ask a question or two. The only fantasy is the Lee. We call the marble man...

Isn't that one of the functions of a family...to protect its members?

Is seem the family had done a good job so far. It seem Lee faults the family wants to keep hidden...

Until you have documentation it's all just wild speculation on your part. And yes, fantasy.

You have no where else to go with this line of conjecture and speculation.

It does not need to be conjecture or speculation if the documents would be open to historians to study... or posted on line for the public to study...

. You're implying there is something to hide when I'm not positive the public has a right to everything, harmful or not.

What harm can knowledge do to 150 year old plus person. It can only help us know the person...

Yes, they can... but they are the ones casting doubt on Lee's image by limiting access to what can be published. What are they hiding?

I think the government should confiscate the material because they a national treasure being denied to the American people.

We would learn the extent of his naughty letters to younger women. We learn more about his slaves from his slave ledgers like why he overpaid for young slave girls. It just thoughts...

Govt confiscation of private property to satisfy your desire and hope that there may be some evidence there that can tarnish someone. Maybe the Lee family feels that letters of a private nature should remain just that, private.

If you listen to Ms. Pryor's interview and she talks about things that surprised her and then she check other known Lee documents and there it was in them as well. She's implying that past historians ignored them( surprises), until her... edit: Ms. Pryor died in a car wreck a few years back so Lee's papers die with her...

You're implying there is something to hide when I'm not positive the public has a right to everything, harmful or not. You have no right to my ancestor's documents anymore than I do with yours.

Yes, it is the slave ledgers

Ah, it's the old "they won't let us see it, so there must be something bad they're hiding" line of thinking.

Yes, usually it means they are hiding something embarrassing

You all seemed to miss this point of the first line. Ms. Pryor would find something she thought was new but once she check other sources there it was. It implies historians (Lee scholars) purperously ignore it.

Oh...why not?

I just enjoy your comments...
Govt confiscation

Yes, for the greater good... The government would compensate them.

The simple fact that they refuse to make private papers public is meaningless.

The truth they did not know what was in those trunks so they needed someone to go through them. The only reason they were not burned to ash. Greed...

Yes...

You should be thankful they allowed access to what they did instead of casting doubt and derision at them

Lee' myth is a fraud.

've excerpted the following from this article.

It s all there was is not...

Doesn't mean there is an agenda to it.

This website had agenda the truth...

they're hiding something embarrassing

This is the point of this thread... we should know was in the trunks so we can have a truer image of Lee..
Please forward your bank statements. We all have the right to know what you're spending your money on, right?

This website had agenda the truth...
I imagine the truth you want or need. Nevertheless an agenda. 'Truth' is somewhat questionable.

Apparently we dont need to see whats in the trunks, you have already convinced yourself of the contents. Actually, if what they really contain was revealed to be harmless personal correspondence, would you be disappointed?

No, If you truly look at the image of Lee given to us by historians something is off...
Wow, talk about a hatchet job; the only thing left that website leaves out they could sling at Lee are accusations of pedophilia.
