Has anyone heard of any new movies based on the Civil War in the works? I am not sure that the last few Civil War movies have made enough money to attract any major studios. What about a sequel or prequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter? Young people are very interested in vampires so this kind of movie could entertain young adults as well as educate them about the Civil War.

Uhh I wouldn't call Vampire Hunter a movie capable of educating young adults about the civil war. I think the most that film does to correctly explain history is showing that Lincoln opposed slavery, married a women named Mary and opposed Jefferson Davis.

Confederate vampires charging Union lines kind of distorts history a tad. Yet I'm sure that girls would have team Lincoln or team Davis if they made the latter a werewolf.

Lincoln and Douglas should have a rap battle to decide who wins the 1858 debates.

Well we could have a Lincoln and Davis rap off. Lincoln could do Chicago Rap and Davis could do Atlanta Hip Hop.

I wonder if at night at Civil War reenactments if you hear Atlanta Hip Hop coming from the Confederate camp and Chicago style rap from the Union camp. We could have a North or South thread where we vote for our favorite. But all the Southerners on CWT would vote Atlanta Hip Hop and all the Northerners would Chicago Rap. A "War Between the Hip Hops" would not be pretty on CWT. "The War of Northern Hip Hop Aggression"?

I will post the money for recent Civil War films:

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter $216 million.
Free State of Jones $25 million ( cost $50 million to make so lost $25 million).

Note to movie studios: Do a sequel to Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. No more Free State of Jones type movies.

According to Wiki, ALVH grossed only $37 mil in the US and $116 worldwide. It cost $99 mil to make so it didn't make a dime.

Going slightly off topic, but I was amazed by how successful Hamilton was: makes me wonder if having Grant and Sherman sing opera or have Lee croon R&B might net similar results.
I'm not really a big fan of Hamilton. I enjoy music in the Song of Music and Wizard of Oz but I have a limit. I don't like people messing with my history. When people change history to make it more palatable to the masses I have a problem with it.

Since the turn of the century there have only been 13 films that are about the Civil War or take place during it. Some of these are pretty bad, others are very low budget.

Gods and Generals
Cold Mountain
Free States of Jones
Field of Lost Shoes
The Conspirator
Lincoln
Gangs of New York
The Last Confederate
Wicked Spring
Copper Head
The Colt
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter
Dog Jack

To add to your list: "Men Go To Battle" (2015)

Geeze, have we historians, because of recent events, degenerated into even considering the stupid vampire move as a method of introducing people to history?? Then to suggest that a sequel be made?? **I will withdraw to my corner to read an intelligent historical work of non-fiction**

Even Abraham Lincoln" Vampire Hunter only broke even or perhaps made a bit of money. The Free State of Jones and The Beguiled were financial nightmares. Movies are basically entertainment, so entertainment with a bit of history is a plus. Young people did get to see Lincoln and Confederates (sadly Confederates were vampires), so the movie was not all bad, right?

Films have to make twice their budget to break even. Part of the money earned goes to the theater chains. This doesn't factor in marketing.

As a younger-ish person, I can testify that some young people are not that bright (movie-wise). I wouldn't trust their movie preferences.

I can not say the movie was not all bad, because I refused to see it. I understand the premise of the movie and I thought so little of the premise that I won't watch it.

Well we have had supernatural Civil War movies before. Anyone remember the 1993 movie The Killing Box (also package as Ghost Brigade, also boxed as Grey Knight, also boxed as Lost Brigade) with the Zombie soldiers?

Now that I think of it many young people like Zombies, but The Killing Box is one sad movie. Well Civil War history with Zombies can't be all bad can it? Yes it can when the movie is as horrid as The Killing Box ( last time I watched it boxed as Grey Knight).
