NF Blue & Gray Magazine Ceases Publication

Non-Fiction
I have received 1 issue from a 2 year subscription. Not sure how much of a $$$ credit I am gonna get for back issues but I have 5 in my cart, all about battlefields I have not visited but want to.

Sad news but understood. If I place an online order now will it be fulfilled?
Yes. They are still selling back issues as long as supplies last.

Got a followup email from them today. They are offering a $6.00 credit per back issue to subscribers but that means you still have to pay about $4 per back issue. What that basically means is that my unfulfilled subscription $$$'s are not being refunded and if I want back issues instead,I still have to pay more money.

Here was my reply to that email notice.

"I’m a bit confused. I have a 2 year $47.95 prepaid subscription of which I have only received one issue. I am owed 11 issues. If I use the coupon to order back issues it says I still have to pay about $4.00 per back issue. That hardly seems fair. Shouldn’t I be able to order 11 back issues at no charge?"

I agree @bdtex. These issues have been printed so there is no production costs. At the most I could maybe understand paying a reduced shipping charge, but since they got my money for my 2+ years left I should really get them for free. Even one free issue for two owed would be better. I hate to sound sour, but I can't see paying more money to get items that we are owed. I'll just have to eat the total loss. This hurts other publications because who wants to commit to a multi-year subscription knowing that you can be totally left out to dry.

I dunno. Let's see how they respond.

I paid for a 2 year subscription in late April or early May for the $47.95. Never received a single issue. Registered on their site to get updates. I am interested to hear how they respond to your comment. Sounds like they are trying to keep the money already paid, and possibly make some more money on back issues that remain. I think its pretty easy. I paid money, I haven't gotten anything. I should be due a refund if I choose not to use my "credit" on back issues.

I'd settle for 5 back issues at no charge. That plus the 1 I did receive would still only be half of what I paid for but I'm not ordering back issues and paying them more money. That's absurd.

I'll send a response, once I receive an email or some other communication from them. I didnt see anything on their site yet and have yet to get an email so a bit premature until I get an update.

I did receive an email a while back when I asked what was going to happen. They responded and said stay tuned to the website...so based on the information at hand, I am not optimistic that this is going well, but I will wait.

Update, as of 10:15pm. I did receive an email, went to spam (go figure). Anyway, I get what the offer is. If you purchased a 2 year @ $47.95, its 8 issues over 2 years (right?) That comes out to $6.00 per issue. Basically, their offer is making everyone's subscription become full price @ $10.00 an issue if you so choose to use their offer because they are giving a $6.00 discount from their online price of $9.95. I get it, especially for those customers who have received issues prior to ceasing publication.

My situation is a bit different since I haven't received anything. I looked at the back issues, and it would be a stretch to order 8 and I dont want a digital download of a Tour of the Wilderness. I emailed them my situation and will await a reply.

You should've gotten the email today. Did you do the Priority Subscriber Registration?

I've worn their Shiloh maps out.

Guess I better order a back issue before they're gone for good.
For those topics that I had a major interest in, I picked up extra copies, took them apart and set them up in plastic sheet protectors. These were then put in notebooks, which also includs material from diaries, articles, and sometimes, material taken from the online MOLLUS papers.
I usually carried these notebooks on the field with me, along with a book or 2 of the battle . Thus, when I reach an area where I have some notes, I stop and read all of it, before moving on.
I started doing this to make up for the lack of a guide with most of my trips.

The latest email I got:

"Hello,

Thank you for visiting Blue & Gray Magazine and The General's Books Home!

We noticed that you didn't complete your order and we wanted to do everything we can to help. To complete your order, simply revisit your shopping cart by using the Finish Shopping link."

They want me to finish that order using the "credits" and pay them more money. Nice try.
