Headed south cross country from the Peach Orchard today with the dog to the Rose Farm, Rose woods, Triangular field , Slaughter Pen, BRT, LRT, Valley of Death, Wheatfield and back to the Peach Orchard.
Wanted to catch the dogwoods in bloom since Ill be in Tenn all next weekend. They were pretty.
*Rose farm field with the split rock now has 6 or so horses in it. They dont seem too high headed. I did some calls to them and they were pretty preoccupied feasting on the fresh grass. Just a point of note for those that want to check out the area around the rocks for then and now stuff.
* Triangular field and valley of death are crawling with dog ticks. Be prepared. I wrap the bottoms of my pants legs with duck tape and that helps keep them out.
* LRT grasses are around 8 inches high after the burn.
* Watched the metal detecting survey crew for awhile that were working in the valley. They were making finds. Bullets that had struck rocks and artillery frags. Was great to watch as its the closest that I'll ever get to detecting there. Was told they found a concentration of bullets in area that they hadnt expected to on LRT.
* Was able to watch the Face of America Bicycle Ride participants. Which was cool. Very positive vibe. here is the link for more info on that

All in all an excellent afternoon. Now its time for a drink and my hammock.

I saw the metal detecting crew yesterday. I asked John Nicholls about it and he said they were doing an archaeological survey that had been delayed a day. Taking advantage of the controlled burn.
