I promise that you will:

1. See things you have never seen before;
2. Go places you have never been before; and
3. Will have an appreciation of the events during the retreat that you never had before.

I do two or three retreat tours per year, folks. This is not something that I do every day. Your options for seeing these sites with me are pretty limited. It will be worth your time and money.

And let me be VERY clear about this: The retreat tour covers 70+ miles of driving. There will be no car snakes, and cars following along behind will not be permitted. Either you join us on the bus, or you will not be permitted to join us at all.

Eric - this sounds like it might be a great trip. Maybe too early to ask, but will there be arrangements for a safe parking area for us to leave our cars for that weekend? thanks.

The following will be the stops on the tour:

1. Begin on Seminary Ridge, where the retreat began.
2. Granite Hill, near Fairfield--last fighting in Adams County
3. Monterey Pass
4. Smithfield
5. Hagerstown

Lunch break

6. Funkstown
7. Boonsboro
8. The Devil's Backbone
9. St. James School/Battle of Williamsport
1o. Donnelly House/Pettigrew's mortal wounding
11. Falling Waters
12. Cushwa Basin

We cover a lot of ground, but it's worth it.

And if we're all in the same vehicle you can't run off and leave us this time!

I'm only now seeing this thread - have I somehow missed the $$$$$; or is that one of the aspects Mike is working on? Also, if this is only a one-day bus trip, shouldn't there be additional group activities like last time? There's PLENTY more to see at Gettysburg, but of course Antietam, Monocacy, and Harpers Ferry are nearby too! For example, just at Gettysburg, a "tour" of Culp's Hill would be nice; Cemetery Hill ditto; as well as LRT, Devils Den, etc., etc. I know if I come there I'll personally see more than just the bus tour, but doing something as a group would be preferable.

I agree. If I make it, I'll be there for several days and looking to pack in all I can.

Mike is still looking into the cost, James. We need to have an idea of how many people, as bus size can vary. Bigger bus=bigger price, and vice versa.

As for the rest, that's not my department. But I'm quite certain that Mike will have other activities lined up.

Big News Everyone. It looks like we have a date for our "Retreat from Gettysburg Tour" We also have some very exciting news about expenses.

Date of the Tour: Friday September 29, 2017

Tour Bus Company: Wolf Tour Lines: Cost will be based on number of attendee's. An approx. cost at this time is an incredibly inexpensive $30.00 per person. $30.00 for an entire day of history amongst friends. and experts

Dinner: Above O'Rorkes Friday night

Accommodations: 30 block of rooms at "The 1863 Inn of Gettysburg" Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

We will meet at the Visitors Center Friday Morning. @Eric Wittenberg and I will determine the time we shall meet and what lot to meet in.

We will depart early AM and return Friday evening. The tour will consist of multiple stops on our way to Williamsport. There will be a lunch stop.

The late September date should also allow for some spectacular foliage scenery along the way.

Eric Wittenberg has done a tremendous amount of research into The ANV and AOP actions following the battle. This is a tremendous opportunity to learn from an expert the activities of the AOP and ANV between July 4, 1863 and the arrival of Grant. To many times we jump from Gettysburg right to the Overland Campaign. There is a lot of action and history that took place immediately following the battle of Gettysburg and Grants arrival. If you haven't studied it in the past, you will be amazed at the movement of the two armies and the decisions made by each commander. It's simply fascinating.

Please check you calendars and let me know if you would like to book a reservation. I will handle it the same way if did last September and build a spread sheet. We will need definite commitments. The largest charter bus holds up to 60 people.

Any questions please feel free to ask.

Here we go again

Sounds great  I will wait a bit to see my work travel schedule before I commit.

One thing: Too early too see any colors there late September. Up here the peak is mid to late October and I suspect that Gettysburg and South would be around Halloween.

Sorry

Awe don't be a naysayer. I've seen foliage that early in the past. If there's none then it will be a beautiful autumn day
