In 1889, veterans of the 20th Maine attended the dedication of their monument at Gettysburg on Little Round Top where their colonel, Joshua Chamberlain spoke eloquently of
'lingering spirits" on the battlefield. That day, veterans, including Chamberlain were photographed around the newly dedicated monument. Chamberlain is seen sitting at right center. I had unsuccessfully attempted to positively identify the exact location of the 1889 image seen below at top right until a couple of visits ago when I believe I was able to reproduce the identical view, on top right. The subtle clue that convinced me can be seen by focusing on the man at the left side of the image leaning on his umbrella. In the blow up at bottom left I have circled a distinct horizontal crack in the rock on which the monument stands which can be matched up with the blow up from my modern photo on bottom right.
