I am looking for help researching Lemuel Austin Daniel, Born 1844 Tennessee, Died 1863 unknown. He is listed as L. A. Daniel, Pvt, Co. E., 23rd Battalion, Tennessee Infantry, (Newman's).

This is Jasper Newton (Jack) Daniel's brother. He had another brother in the war, Wiley Butler Daniel, in Turney's 1st Tennessee.

I would like to find out if there is any information about when or where he died. (Maybe Chickamauga)

Here you go. Its going to cost a bottle of Jack D

Okay, so here's the story behind all this. My g grandmother, Hulda Massey was the daughter of Rev. C.S. Massey (Forrest's Escort) and Margaret Dennis, of Mulberry, Tennessee. She was the daughter of Henry Dennis, and Caroline Hobbs. Caroline died in 1851, and Henry in 1853. My gg grandmother was 3 when her mother died, and 5 when her father died. Her and the other children were taken in by a wealthy farm family in Mulberry, Tennessee named Felix and Hulda Waggoner. They had also taken in Jasper "Jack" Daniel, their nephew. Jack left them about the same time my gg grandmother arrived in the household to go live with a man named Dan Call, who taught him to make whiskey....(The rest is history). Jack Daniel's brother, Wiley Butler Daniel, was married to Susanna Waggoner, Felix and Hulda's daughter. My g grandmother was named Hulda, and my g uncle was named Felix, in honor of her mother's adopted parents. My gg grandfather, was born the same year as Jack Daniel, and they were close friends. My gg grandfather was a mule riding Methodist circuit preacher after the war. Here is a copy of a picture of old veterans at the dedication of the Confederate monument in Mulberry. Among them are my gg grandfather, and Wiley Butler Daniel (Turney's 1st Tennessee). My gg grandfather and gg grandmother are buried in Mulberry Cemetery, along with Wiley Butler Daniel, and "Nettie" Daniel, his and Jack's sister.
