I am the GGGrandson of Frank H Foote. He wrote often of the War in the National Tribune in the 1880's. One of his articles captured the attention of Capt. Northrup. As a consequence and over a few years time they were able to return Capt. JH Duncans surrendered sword from the Battle of Ft Gregg to his Brother Capt. RR Duncan in Culpeper Va. Capt. Northrup's Nephew Dr. Ira Livermore ended up with the war diary of Northrup and corresponded with my relative. I am trying to locate the families involved to locate the dairy and any surviving letters from Pvt. Foote. I have some information on Livermores kids but have never traced geneolgy, especially difficult I hear since he had daughters and they went west. Sure could use some help or a connection or advice or somebody I can share the rest of this with to get me started. Thank you.

Edith Johnson Harris is buried in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Glendale, CA; she died January 30, 1977. Julia Hewitt died May 11, 1995 and is buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix. Her husband was Richard J. Hewitt who may still be alive (his marker at the cemetery, joint with his wife, has no dates on it).

May I suggest, as a next step, contacting area newspapers about the possible existence of obituaries for these individuals? Obituaries would normally list surviving relatives.

Awesome start, thank you for the assistance.

James Northrup Livermore died July 17, 1980 in Royal Oaks, Mich. I do not find a burial for him.

Do you have access to Ancestry.com? There are a number of "public member trees" kept by various ancestry members on the Ira Livermore family and descendants, plus more "private member trees". You can contact the person who posted each tree on line and see if they can help you.

Good luck.

Thank you. I can certainly join. My grandparents were great at this. One started tracing the family tree right out of college in 1929. He amassed a huge stack of paper that he did a great job of consolidating it into a book for us. I will try what you have provided and hope that I find the material in their possesion. If not then the Northup side might have it. But since they are related there may be a current connection. Your assistance is assistance in this is greatly appreciated.
