Monuments Grand Army Plaza Brooklyn Photo Tour

The plaza also has statues of two Union Generals on either side of it. On the right side is General Slocum. This is a large impressive equestrian statue in its own small park. On top of a hill, it is significantly above street level. Unfortunately, a low hurricane fence separated it from the public.

Isn't there a fort Slocum in brooklyn?

Great tour, Pat. Thanks.

Looking at the traffic, I'm reminded of a joking explanation of the generals in the traffic circles in Washington, D.C. in levels of ascending dangerousness. The pundit said that if you see the general's horse with feet on the ground, it's not too bad. If the horse has one foot raised, moderately dangerous. Two feet in the air, very dangerous. And if you see the horse and rider laying on the ground, you know it's so dangerous you should always avoid that circle.
