May 4th is also National Orange Juice Day, Orange trees were planted by early Spanish explorers in the 1500s in St. Augustine, Florida. The first orange grove appeared in 1830 on Merritt Island.

Oranges became very popular. Orange Juice was not always a breakfast drink. Oranges had been squeezed for years but the juice had to be drunk right away or would spoil. By the early 1900s pasteurization was developed and there were the railroads. Orange growers could produce more orange juice and ship to the larger cities.

Orange Juice became America's favorite breakfast drink.

Orange juice with a breakfast of eggs helps your body absorb the good stuff in the eggs - doesn't do so well without it! But the sweet tang helps you start the day right.

And...it's essential to the Orange Julius! Suddenly...oranges everywhere in California...
IIRC when I was a child Giant Orange stands could be found along Hwy 99. Looked just like in your photo.

Yes, all up and down California were these little oranges! :D Some of them had hamburger shacks attached, too, or a hot dog place. Down by Buttonwillow, out in the middle of a desert full of tumbleweeds, there was an orange. They sold great Orange Julius drinks and chili dogs. As far as the eye could see all around, just the highway - with no traffic - and the orange!

I was never a huge fan of it, but it did make a good mixer with vodka. It was actually about all I used it for if I'm recall. It was always too sweet for me. I don't touch it at all now since I've gotten diabetes.

I've never been much of an orange juice fan - actually I don't drink any juice. I run on tea, coffee, water and flavored seltzers! Though I will have some orange juice if I have a bad cold, as it's nice soothing to sore throat.

Nothing freaks me out more than the little bits floating in the juice! Even as a kid I hated the pulp.
