The day that my friend Mike Noirot and I toured this battlefield in July 2010 was nearly 100 degrees and 90% humidity, and it was just ghastly. As a result, there's a lot of that battlefield that I don't remember very well, as we were dying out there. Thanks for the reminders, Bill. I guess I need to go back, only when it's not so beastly out....

Did you get down to Cane Hill? The first couple of time I drove that area I was without the better maps that I have now.

I love Prairie Grove. Wonderful tour. I was doing a book signing at the re-enactment one year so had the privilege of joining in a square dance with dancers all in costume. And then visited the tent city that night and strolled through the camp, enjoying tasting supper from several fires, and even joined in singing period songs with the fellows. One of my best memories ever. I will cherish it always.

The Battle of Prairie Grove, Arkansas occurred on this day in 1862.
Great pics and thread. One of these days hopefully I'll get to reading a few books about the CW action in Arkansas then make a road trip up there.

I have bought the Blue & Gray Magazine issues on Prairie Grove and Helena in anticipation of a future trip or 2 to Arkansas.
