Plum Lake forming at Gettysburg?

During my many visits to the battlefield, I never noticed how swollen Plum Run has become in front of Little Round Top. Is it usually this way and I haven't noticed?
At one point it looks like it has been dammed up by twigs. It hasn't rained there for at least 4 days and it has not been a rainy season.

I wonder what the state of Plum Run was during the battle. Do we have any accounts?

Canteen with water filtration

I have a little extra time today so I thought I would share my most recent acquisition. To my knowledge these do not come up for sale often so when I saw it I had to add it to my collection. The "filtering system" appears to be made out of wood, perhaps rosewood? The spout cap threads are worn so it no longer screws into place but it is an impressive piece nonetheless. I don't know a lot about what to look for that identifies a canteen to a certain depot/manufacturer and there does not appear to be any markings on the spout or sling. Any insight and opinions are welcome and appreciated.

Burial trench?

I found this on Culp’s Hill in the ravine. It runs parallel to the stream. It’s not wide enough to be a farm lane. What do you think?

Mission Statement

CivilWarTalk is a forum for students and fans of the American Civil War. Our online community of Historians, Skirmishers, Re-enactors, Educators, and Enthusiasts is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information related to the War Between the States. Our goal is to become the leading resource for every researcher seeking historical information and opinions relating to the American Civil War.

The American Civil War

The American Civil War, arguably the most traumatic event in the history of the United States, was fought from 1861 to 1865, and was the culmination of sectional issues which deeply divided the country between a pro-Federal government North and a pro-states rights, in the pro-slavery South, whose eleven states formed a breakaway government called the Confederate States of America. The costliest war in terms of human lives, the American Civil War claimed in excess of 620,000 battle or disease-related deaths - roughly two percent of the country's total population, and nearly more deaths than all other American wars combined.
