Confederate $10 bill

Hello,
I wanted to add a few small confederate items to my humble ACW collection. I know Confederate pieces are rare and often faked and my hands on experience with them is limited, so I’m just adding a couple of relatively inexpensive relics. I like the look of this $10 bill. I like the ”flying artillery”. I also added a couple of buttons that I’ll post in a separate Thread. Any comments welcome and thanks for looking!

Regards,
Frank

STS stamp

I have an acquaintance with an STS stamp on his M1851 - Has anyone seen this specific stamp before? Very deep and heavy, it does not match any of the known military schools of the time that I could find by initials.

He has a theory that could be plausible. There were 5 pattern guns made at Springfield and sent for testing and approval. Sts could be Samuel Thomas Shorewood? He was a carpenter and gun Smith attributed with making the 1847 carbines and the 41 and 51 cadets

I was born in 1850 near Front Royal VA. In 1864 my older brother an I enlisted in Mosby's Rangers though I was only 14. Times were tough after the War so my older brother and I moved to Montana Territory where we made our fortunes in the mercantile industry. In 1891 I moved to the northwestern corner of the newly formed state of Montana and founded a town where I spent the remainder of my life. Who was I? What is the name of the town I founded?

Strange piece of iron

I found this in Rose Run. It looks like slag but it’s magnetic. Was there an iron furnace in the area? Where could it have come from?

Mission Statement

CivilWarTalk is a forum for students and fans of the American Civil War. Our online community of Historians, Skirmishers, Re-enactors, Educators, and Enthusiasts is dedicated to the exchange of ideas and information related to the War Between the States. Our goal is to become the leading resource for every researcher seeking historical information and opinions relating to the American Civil War.

The American Civil War

The American Civil War, arguably the most traumatic event in the history of the United States, was fought from 1861 to 1865, and was the culmination of sectional issues which deeply divided the country between a pro-Federal government North and a pro-states rights, in the pro-slavery South, whose eleven states formed a breakaway government called the Confederate States of America. The costliest war in terms of human lives, the American Civil War claimed in excess of 620,000 battle or disease-related deaths - roughly two percent of the country's total population, and nearly more deaths than all other American wars combined.
