I was born in Ireland, moved to the north and moved to the south. I, who was educated to treat the sick and wounded, did exactly that when the civil war began. I joined the first of those to rebelled against the rebellion. While treating my wounded Colonel I became the Colonel myself. Fighting to keep the mountains and valleys free I commanded one of those crooked divisions when I fell mortally wounded under the trees in 1864.
At Fredericksburg on Dec 13, 1862, Brig Gen Thomas Reade Rootes Cobb fell mortally wounded behind the stone wall at the Sunken Road. Brig Gen Joseph B Kershaw took command of the line and Colonel Robert McMillan of the 24th Georgia assumed immediate command of Cobb’s Brigade.
Who was promoted to brigadier general in Jan 1863 to assume command of Cobb’s Brigade? AND in which regiment did he serve prior to his promotion?
