Awhile ago, my parents gave me an original copy of Historic Views of Gettysburg by Mumper and Miller, published in 1912. The book is full of photos of the battlefield, buildings and monuments from that time period. It's a great book if you're interested in history of the battlefield through photos.

I was born in South Africa in 1846 and disappointed my famous father who found me to be "lazy". I searched for him once but ended up on ship bound for Boston. Some say I was shanghaied into Union service while I was in the Sailors' Home there. But it was the 3rd New Hampshire that I marched with until October 7th, 1864 when Lee's men attacked Fort Harrison. I was taken prisoner and died in Salisbury just short of two months later.
