This CW prison was dismantled brick by brick and reassembled elsewhere for a much-later exhibition. Afterward, the re-build survived into the 1900s asa museum, and it is said that many of the bricks were reclaimed yet again to build a civic arena in the town.

What Prison, what town and why there?

This beautiful sixth plate ambrotype is not signed by Charles Rees, however the opposite side mat has the "145 Main St Richmond" address that he took over early in the war. He is known to have used some of the leftover materials from the previous occupant at that address (Pratt's VA Gallery).

More importantly, in my humble opinion, it has the intangible artistic beauty of a Rees...

I am buried somewhere along the tracks of the Santa Fe RR in a lonely unmarked grave way out West. While on a Scouting patrol, I, and two others in my command, were killed when I failed to follow orders not to engage the enemy. The other two soldiers who were killed are buried at the Presidio in San Francisco. Who am I?

I was born in 1845 and, at the age of 16, enlisted in the 15th Alabama Infantry. After surviving Gettysburg, and about 2 weeks after the battle of Chickamauga, I was captured at Lookout Mountain and sent to Camp Morton. A sutler store was available there and the sutler sold us large guttapercha buttons for a nickel a piece. We boiled them until they resumed their original shape and, with great patience, cut out the center and made rings....
