What New Jersey regiment?

Here's the guy: Thomas Moore, born aboout 1843 in New Jersey and living in Elizabeth, Union County, New Jersey, single, living with his parents.

He claimed when he registered for the draft in 1863 that he had volunteered for a 9-month regiment but had taken sick and was discharged. The draft book is on Ancestry.com.

My question is: what 9-month regiment did he serve in? At the NPS database, I can find Thomas Moores in the 22nd, 27th, 30th, 34th and 38th New Jersey regiments, and those are all 9-month ones. I may even have missed some others. As you know, the NPS database doesn't list soldiers' hometowns, so the question is: what 9-month regiment did the Thomas Moore from Elizabeth, NJ serve in?

Probably not my guy, unfortunately--that would be more interesting! But he got married in his hometown soon after so he wasn't hiding.

Probably not him, since that guy served his whole 9 months and my guy supposedly got sick. Also his draft registration was in June of 1863, so that would be a real tight fit with the discharge date.

Hmm... a possibility, though it says he was discharged after being sick, not resigned, on the draft registration.

Overlaps the June 1863 draft registration, so probably not him.

Sigh. I'm stumped. Why did he have to have such a common name! Thanks to both you and Elennsar for your help. If anyone has anything more, I'm definitely interested. Otherwise, I may just have to fudge and say he served in a 9-month union regiment but not specify which one.

The whole thing has come up because in 1866 he's going to marry a woman passing for white who also happens to be the daughter of a strong southern pro-Confederate sympathizer. Life was complicated!
