When units moved from one area to another, they did so by foot or rail. Were records kept during the war to show the names of Union units so transported, when and where?

The Official Records of the War of the Rebellion contains correspondence between commanders some of which refers to transportation issues. See: http://ebooks.library.cornell.edu/m/moawar/waro.html

In addition to foot and rail, boat and horse were often used.
