I dunno...the South got pretty "aggressive" before the war, even started it.

"He who controls the language controls the debate." I tried to look up where the quote came from, and apparently there's no consensus, oddly enough.

You say that, then a Northerner says War of the Rebellion then......

Why not just talk civil and call it the "Civil War" as most folks refer to it?

What is your point except baiting somebody?

Ya...War Of Northern agresssion! Hmmmmmm.... Read the history of the 1850's. It was a Constiutional assualt by the slave power on the rights of ALL. Not just a deal to insure slaves reamained slaves. A true moral/ethicical perversion....of what this nation was, in conception, supposed to stand for. AND some Northern hands were just as dirty as any of the other sections...to be fair. See...S Douglas.

By the way....I have never read any slave account calling it the "War of Northern Agression" never or ever. Had u been a slave Franklin u may have called it the "War of Liberation". Yup....heh

This title for the war reminds me of Newspeak, from George Orwell's book, 1984.

The purpose of the development of Newspeak in the book was the destruction of words and their meaning so people would not think or know about the concepts of freedom, rebellion, or other words that might cause them to question their situation.

The term, "The War of Northern Aggression," is simply a form of Newspeak, twisting actual historical events at the git-go with a purely partisan view of who actually started the war. The name is not history, its merely propaganda for an agenda.

    In my opinion.

    Nice reply.
The states were and are not sovereign.
It was a nice excuse for not observing the U.S. Constitution, since all states had given up independent sovereign rights, to do as they pleased, when the U.S. Constitution was agreed to.
Anyone ignoring the U.S. Constitution and attempting to take so much territory from the U.S., should have expected a good punch to the mouth, which was appropriately given.

For some reason I always preferred the euphemism, the late unpleasantness.

If the term "Civil War" is good enough for Robert E Lee; it's good enough for me.

One of the least accurate terms, along with "War Between the States." It is certainly less accurate than "War of the Slaveholders' Rebellion." Personally, I prefer "The Civil War" as being the most accurate term.
