Tell you what why don't you give us a statement from a state on the Union side saying they were fighting to preserve slavery and I'll post the ones from the Confederate side .. I bet my evidence is a whole lot easier to find....
Many Union soldiers were indifferent to slavery as it generally did not affect them. That, however, isn't the point is it? The mantra here is that Confederates, despite their personal motivations were fighting for slavery. Until the Union war aim changed to emancipation, Union soldiers, despite their personal motivations, were, equally, fighting for slavery. Spin as you like, that is the bottom, though apparently, unacceptable truth.
