The Civil War: Sherman’s March to the Sea

Union Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman

From C-SPAN and their video archive: History professor Anne Sarah Rubin discusses Union Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman’s 1864 March to the Sea through Georgia and the guidelines he established to ensure “civilized warfare.” This talk is a portion of the 2014 Civil War Symposium hosted by the U.S. Capitol Historical Society.

Note: Some folks might hear the lecturer's accent and be off-put by it. But give it a chance: she has a lot of history and insight to share.

This needs to be bumped up nearer the other march thread! Just got done listening - it's worth it. She is not a Sherman apologist but simply points out the exaggerations and, quite importantly, the out of context quotes used to vilify him. Almost all of it is what a general at war would be thinking, and should be thinking.
