Local historians Roselia Verhoff and Ruth Wilhelm stand near the list of Putnam County Civil War veterans they have compiled. The two women have worked on compiling the list for over four years. Wilhelm was the guest speaker during the annual meeting of the Putnam County Historical Society. Wilhelm is leaving the Civil War roster of veterans on display at the museum for a month. (Putnam Sentinel/Nancy Kline)
KALIDA — Numerous records indicate over three million people fought in the Civil War. On Saturday area residents learned that nearly 2,000 of those men and women included Putnam County residents.
Ruth Wilhelm, historian and genealogist librarian, was the guest speaker during the 143rd annual meeting of the Putnam County Historical Society.
