Much of what you hear here about the SCV is decidedly negative. I think this is mainly from forum members with a decided axe to grind. The SCV, however does a great deal to help preserve artifacts like original flags. One such flag is this one:
This is the flag of Colonel Hatton's 7th Tennessee Infantry raised in middle Tennessee, including Sumner and Wilson counties. This flag is currently in the collection of the Tennessee State Museum. Last Saturday, the 7th, coincidentally, there was a ceremony at the State Museum accepting the final funds necessary for the restoration of this flag. These funds were raised by the Hatton Camp and the Roderick, Forrest's War Horse Camp, as well as the Tennessee Division and SCV National Headquarters.
Here are some photos from that ceremony:
This is Dan Pomeroy the Chief Curator of the State Museum opening the ceremony.
The next speaker was Dr. Candance Adelson, the Senior Curator of Fashion & Textiles at the State Museum and in charge of the conservation and restoration of the flags (and other relics, i.e, Cleburne's kepi and other items).
Compatriot Dr. Michael Bradley read I am their Flag as only he could.
James Patterson, Division Commander, Tennessee Division of the SCV talking about the Tennessee Division's commitment to using a major portion of the funds derived from Tennessee SCV License Plates for restoration of Confederate Relics at the Tennessee State Museum.
