A Quaker Dish
Stone one quart of ripe cherries; put a teaspoonful of fresh butter in a clean skillet: fry the cherries in this; add sugar to taste. Stew until the syrup is thick. Nice for tea.

Cherry Dumpling
Make a rich crust; wet it up with buttermilk sweetened with soda. Seed the cherries; stew in sugar; line the bowl with the crust. Tie the bowl up in a thick towel of put in a bag; no water must get in. Bowl in a kettle full of water. Eat with solid butter sauce. This may be baked. Blackberries, raspberries or sliced apples may be used instead of cherries.
