Camp Nelson Civil War Heritage Park and the USCTLHA are in need of people to portray Freedmen's Bureau agents at the September 9-11, 2016 event. See http://www.campnelson.org/home.htm Unfortunately this short notice solicitation is presented because we have exhausted our resources to find someone to portray this role. It is a first person interpretation and heavy interaction with the public. Historically, the agents registered people in an attempt to locate families and also assisted people who wanted to return to the places from which they had escaped or were freed. They also registered couples for weddings and pursued land acquisition and compensation matters. It entails having the necessary stationery and facsimile documents, and interacting with the person who is portraying the minister who will perform a massive wedding ceremony on September 10, 2016. Interaction with other participants and the public is also required. This portrayal is open to anyone as the agents were both men and women; black and white. This is a civilian portrayal. People should meet the clothing and material culture standards outlined in the "New Market Heights Civilian Guidelines" (see attached).

If interested, please send a PM or email [email protected] with your contact information and photograph(s) of your historical portrayal.
