I know most enfields were imported into the south starting in late 61, bulk portions though out 62, and dwindling down in 63. Does anyone have information on when Nc troops in the ANV were issued enfields ? Specifically the 13th regiment ?

According to Todd in the fall of 1861 NC sent an agent to England that resulted in the acquisition of 2,000 Enfield rifled muskets and 2,000 more arrived in '62, it does not appear as if NC troops were generously armed with that weapon. The capture of the US Arsenal in Fayetteville enabled the state to arm all of its regiments through the 30th (April 22, 1861) . Thereafter the Confederacy no longer was willing to furnish arms to 12 month regiments.

The 13th Reg., formerly the 3rd reg. vols. were issued 1842 muskets with 1 company issued 1841 rifle
The 13th reg Vol which became the 23rd Reg were issued 1822 converted musket with 2 companies 1842, in 1862 reg rearmed with captured muskets.
