I need some help to complete transcribing this letter. I tried to upload the images but it kept failing. I'm hoping this works instead. I know some here enjoy this type of activity and any assistance will be sincerely appreciated. I will put what I have so far in the second post.

Camp ???????
Feb. 12, 1863

Dear Lindsey,

I have the been confined to ??? ???
with an attack of "bilious fever" since the evening you
started ifyou will recollect I told you that evening
I was fearful that I was going to be sick - this is the
first day that I have been able to sit up and feel
very weak indeed - ????? & ?????? or ???????
or ????????? as you ???? - can be obtained very cheap
in this Departmen provided you agree to take it right
time per day - I believe that I took a hatfull in a
month.
??? - I wish you would make arrangements to get
those deserters from companys A & K who are loafing
around Lou. and Fkft (Louisville and Frankfort). Charley Gutig(?) tells us that
there are plenty of his men in L_ who would come
if they thought that they would not be punished, that
he has received letters to that effect. I wish you
would get (Spider?), the scoundrel, his is playing at some
of the barracks in Louisville. We are now without any
music. Col. Sheldon sent out yesterday and took the
fife and drummer off that he had loaned us, which
leaves us without any fife & drm as principal musicians
if you can engage a few musicians cheap in Ky.
for goodness sake do it for tis mightly lonesome without

some kind of music.
I wish you would attend to Sergt.
????? Companion whilest you are up there, tho
Dillon cautiously(?) deserves it, and is very impatient
about.
Can you make arrangements by which Capt.
Hegan's father can draw his pay. Milligan has
sent the quartermaster certificates asking that he
was not indebted to the Government as to his Department
but, it strikes me that he has a final settlement to
make at ??? before getting his pay ???? ?
The health of the Reg. is improving every day - lost one
man a few days since. Charles Marsall of Frank-
fort. He was quite an old man, disease, diarrhea.
Harrington's resignation was not accepted
he taken it very coolly.
Shanks has washed his face and
??? & put on a white shirt since receiving his Commifs (commission?)
says he intend buying him a fine comb provided the
Sutler will trust him.
I have got Thomas back to the
company and made Robt pack him on
very first day. He will soon find that he is no longer
Second in Command in the Brigade. I ??? tightening
the ropes on the Young Genl. until he gets to
know his place.
If you come back ???? thosedeserters & bring them with you. It does seem to me
that they could be arrested by a little exertion.

Col. DeCourcey sent for us to day nd I hobbled over
there and he read us a long letter which he had
written you. You will probably receive it about the
same time that you do this. His suspicion is that
you wil not come back, if you don't ??? for God's
sake don't have the Reg. ??? but use every effort
to get it back to Ky. The boys (you know him they are)
would say that you brough this down here, and
there deserted there. And though reasonable men
would say no attention to you leaving of ???? soldiers
have but little confidence ???? and trust to
their officers attention for their safety and welfare and
when they think tat they are going to leave them
they give w/o all hope.
I send you the "Blue Rag?" that
bore the blunt at Chickasaw Bluffs, you can have
it proceed as you think best, ???? the return
of the Reg to Ky but don't let it be torn in ???
too much. Bring us a New Flag.
Give my love
to my Friends Ally and Ed ???? - tell All &
Ed that I will write to them and give them some
Southern Wine if they will open the correspondence.
Bring some of Gray & Todd's best with you ??? come
my Love to Gray & Bacon.

Yours Truly
Geo. W. Monroe

Thanks for the help. I actually cleaned up a few more things. It's not Haynes....it's Frayne. KHS actually has his sword that was given to them. Not sure who Dillon is as there is no "Dillon" with the regiment. All other names match up. Kind of a cool letter even though nothing much of interest. I do like how they refer to their flag as the, "Blue Rag" if I read 'blue' correctly.

A few more...these are names. In particular what is the "Gee" between the names? I'm not sure what that means.

I have B. R. James, Colonel Haney, Martin Wicker, Greenville Crawford, Campbell Biggs, Samuel Everman. The rest I'm stuck on especially with that "Gee"messing me up.

Appreciate the help.
