Slave Family Sixth Plate Tintype. A seated African American woman holds a baby in this cased, sixth plate tintype. She is surrounded by her four other children. The inside cover of the case has some faint pencil inscriptions identifying the sitters. We see the names William, Karen and John Griffin or Griffith and the year 1865. The tintype has some slight bends and the copper frame is protruding at the bottom. A note indicates the image was used on Ken Burns' PBS documentary "The Civil War".
