Anyone want to meet me TODAY in downtown Mempfis at Washburn Alley??

Today is the 150th Anniversary of the 2nd Battle of Memphis or aka, Forrest's Memphis Raid.

I have to go get my picture taken at some historical site or historical marker. Maybe the marker for Libby Prison. Where is that marker?

Be sure to check out the Mississippi River museum on "Mud Island." Full-scale partial replica of a Pook Turtle you can walk through, a number of great models, and a large scale model of the lower Mississippi River itself.

I hate that I'm just getting online! I was just downtown earlier and would have love to meet up! Still might need to meet and pick your brain about other regional battles soon!

The Irving Block where they failed to free the prisoners was on Second Street across and just north of Court Square, it's a vacant lot now and the marker is gone.

The Gayoso Hotel where Wm Forrest rode his horse into the lobby and tried to capture Hurlburt was on Front Street at Peabody Place but the marker is gone.

The old Williams mansion where Jesse Forrest tried to capture C. C. Washburn was on Union Avenue by the Redbird Stadium. There is a marker!

Thanks. I may just go to Redbird Stadium and then over to Forrest Park----oh, my bad--- Medical Technical School Park or whatever it is this year.

And I won't pack any heat. I'll wear my Rebel kepi and that will scare the thugs away.

I decided to visit two places: the Marker in front of the River Birds Stadium and Forrest's Monument.

I stopped at Forrest's Monument first and the large trees was already blocking most of the light. Also, there were about 8 protesters there. I don't know what they were protesting as I couldn't understand their signs. Seems they thought Forrest had something to do with the events in Ferguson, MO.
I took a few photos with my camera and a "selfie" with my iPhone --- to prove I was there on the 150th Anniversary of Forrest's Mempfis Raid.

Next, I drove on down Union to the Red Bird Stadium expecting to park there. But there was a game going on. Not sure if it was the Red Birds as it wasn't that crowded but I immediately gave up on the idea of parking there.

So that was it. Something I can tell my grand-children but they are bored with my Civil War travels.
