Been checking this site out fer a while now. Seems like some decent folks here. I'm a re-enactor from NorCal, Company G, 1st Texas Infantry Regiment is the unit but I also do LH visits to HS's, we bring CS Cavalry (sadly Dismounted), CSMC and some others s well.
My second great uncle was with the 15th Texas Cavalry DISMOUNTED! As many Texas Cav units were ordered DISMOUNTED in the Trans-Mississippi. His pay records show he was paid for use of horse and tack. So, if you ever see me out on the field wearing my FARBY hat from Texas, as a DISMOUNTED 'Cavalryman' with a 3-band Enfield....there's my story, I'm sticking with it! LOL

Well, I have a cousin who was a cavalryman killed at Brice's Crossroads in a dismounted attack. So more power to you, and your hat as well.

Welcome from Memphis, by the way.

Howdy Allie, thank you and hats off to you as well. Actually, I've got about 9 family members, mostly fellers married into the family that all served in Texas or Arkansas units. One family, my gggmother Lucinda Clark, her husband John was killed by bushwackers in Bentonville AR while he was farming, one son survived the war, the other was killed in Corinth...Arkansas Infantry Regiment but cant' remember which one right off hand.

Howdy from Texas! So your ancestor was with the 15th Texas Cavalry (Dismounted) in the Deshler-Smith-Granbury Texas Brigade?

Awesome! Granbury's Texas Brigade (along with Hood's) is one of my favorites. I really enjoyed John R. Lundberg's history of the brigade.

That ones on my list to read. Have several books on Texas in the CW to read. I'm pretty newb in the reenacting but big on historical research. Can't do a good presentation without research.
