No, sorry. That's not what I mean. I mean they're going to continue to put them there. No matter what. And some poor cop is going to have to try to catch someone.

And unless they watch 24 hours a day, there will be more flags.

It was maintenance workers, not the law. Then someone officially complained that made it official.
If the fellow that stuck the flags in the first place had asked permission, then a lot of misunderstanding would have been avoided.

And if the permission was refused? The issue would be right back in the news.

It's a UDC monument, and the UDC has always used the "First National" as its emblem. A First National would have been less likely to prompt objections, and is arguably more appropriate in this case anyway.

Really. Most people don't have the foggiest notion what it is.

What's going to happen if it really gets to be an issue, is that someone is going to file suit to have the memorial removed and then all you know what is going to hit the fan.

The UDC and the SCV have done so much good in restoring cemeteries and recognizing veterans, restoring historical sites, etc. I wish they'd stick to it.

Here is a Union memorial with tiny US Flags. Really, a few Confederate Flags are not as symbolic of veterans?

Excellent point. Seems so silly. "Let's pretend there was no war and there were no Confederate soldiers."

Tiny? Compared to what? These look to be at least 1x2 feet at least. Plus placed in some sort of bronze holder associated with the monument.

Some are GAR holders as my GGF has one at his grave. Those flags are specifically made for the holders. I carry a few in my car because his are missing sometimes.

Maybe I am missing something, but with permission, a flag holder with plaque should be acceptable. The UDC uses national flags, so a Confederate National flag allowed seems to be a good idea.

Of course there would be objections especially with a CBF. Maintenance of the flag is important. I was in deep Southern country recently and I saw 3+ sets of flagpoles with US 'ribbons' where US flags used to be and had weathered to strips at or near occupied dwellings. The result of a passion that abated and resulted in neglect.

    Just curious.

The United States of America was formed by the Articles of Confederation.

Um... So I hear. I am pretty sure we had a war with England over it.

History always changes ... at least what we know of it. We hear this, which is gospel, and then some other information shows up that puts another slant on what we know. And isn't that history?

History doesn't change; what we know of it does. And there's the rub.
