Hello all, my first post here! I'm quite new to the study of the Civil War but am finding it all incredibly fascinating.
I have a question - we all know how General Armistead reflected on his friendship with General Hancock at Gettysburg and several times expressed a wish to ride out and meet him. His feelings about marching against Hancock's corps seemed to have been quite well-recorded. My question is - do we know much about how Hancock felt about this before and during the battle? Clearly he would have known that his old friend was out there...
The relationship between these two men is remarkably poignant and almost could be something out of Greek tragedy.
