A few rarely seen photographs of ACW generals at a younger age.

First Lieutenant Abner Doubleday of future Civil War and mistakenly baseball fame posing with Mexican civilians during the Mexican-American War, near Saltillo, c. 1847. One of the few photographs from the Mexican-American War that features an identifiable person.

The man in the photo above is believed to be 2nd Lt. Thomas J. Jackson in Mexico City or Vera Cruz while serving with the 1st U.S. Artillery Regiment, circa 1847.

Another photograph of 2nd Lt. Jackson.

Those are really great! Love that one of Grant - he looks all of 10! Stonewall - what a hat!

Love these. Where's that cute picture of Sheridan at West Point? Who'd think he'd turn out to be such a jerk?

Earliest known photo of George Armstrong Custer, age 17, June, 1857. I think I read somewhere that he is holding a photo of his girlfriend. (Books look like they've never been opened!)

Jackson looks like a serial killer. Can barely stand to look in his eyes!

Thanks for posting. Is it possible that there are many more West Point photos floating around somewhere?

Thanks for posting these very interesting pictures. I have not seen many of these before. The second picture of Lt. Jackson bears an eerie resemblance to a young John Brown.

I see much mischief in the countenance of Mr. Custer. Jackson gives me the heebie jeebies. Sheridan looks like a stone cold killer. R.E. Lee appears regal. Others...not revealing much.
