"Fun, Food & Flowers" is the cookbook published by Georgia's Thomasville Garden Club for their 100th anniversary. It is full of great recipes from members. They are old and new recipes.

There is nothing like collecting community cookbooks. They can be from churches, school PTAs, and clubs, like this one. They are always filled with wonderful recipes.

Icebox Cucumber Pickles

2 1/2 cups sugar
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1/4 cup canning and pickling salt
3/4 teaspoon celery seeds
3/4 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
12 medium cucumbers, cut into 1/4 inch slices
1 large onion, cut into 1/8 inch slices

Cook first 6 ingredients in a large saucepan over high heat, stirring occasionally, about 3 minutes or until mixture is hot and sugar dissolves. (Do not boil.).

Place cucumbers and onions in a 4 quart airtight plastic container. Pour hot vinegar mixture over cucumbers and onions. Cool 30 minutes. Serve immediately or refrigerate in airtight container up to 2 weeks.

Another recipe from this book: Tipsy Watermelon.

Place 4 cups chopped seedless watermelon in a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Whisk together 1/2 cup tequila, 1/4 cup fresh lime juice, and 2 tablespoons light agave nectar in a small bowl. Pour mixture over watermelon, gently stirring to coat. Cover and chill 45 minutes to 8 hours. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt just before serving.

Makes 6 servings.

A cool and refreshing way to serve watermelon for your next summer get together.

These community cookbooks always have great tips. Here is this book's tip on cutting watermelon. "Cut the top and bottom off so it can sit flat on the cutting board. Run a sharp knife down the sides, taking off the rind. Cut it into rounds, and then cut rounds into chunks."
