Shirts are pretty easy to sew, if you sew (or are willing to learn) or know someone who does. The "square" shape shirt popular in the era is a good one to learn on. If for late in the war on the Confederate side, though, it should be hand sewn. Buttonholes definitely need to be hand-sewn, but I've found they're not as hard as many of us think.
