Colt 1851 rifling twist direction

Hi,

I am trying to learn more about the rifling of the Colt 1851 revolvers - originals only.
I know for sure that the standard rifling was a seven- groove left hand gain twist rifling.
However, were there ever Colt 1851's produced with a right hand twist?
Perhaps there are technical oriented collectors out there who might have an opinion on the matter. If so, I would be glad to hear about your thoughts on the subject.
Thanks.

There were not, though the number of variations of the '51 were considerable to include:
trigger guard
markings
contours of particular parts
grip or back strap material
shoulder stock attachments and '51s designed to accept them.

The book '51 Colt Navies, by Nathan Swayze is a must if you want to know more.

I would suggest going to the Coltforum.com and then to the Percussion Revolvers area for any details answers regarding colt revolvers ; the site has a large number of very informed members regarding details of colt firearms .

Thank you very much for your answers!
Both answers included information as well as good suggestions on how to dig deeper into the matter. I will see to it. Thanks a lot!
