I recently uncovered another cousin.
His name is Thomas J. Rives from Braselton, Georgia. He enlisted in Athens, Georgia on August 1, 1861 with Co. H of Cobb's Legion Cavalry. His first service record shows him guarding tents in Yorktown, VA.
He was wounded in the mouth on November 27, 1863 at the Battle of Mine Run. He was sent to Jackson Hospital in Richmond and was granted a 60 day furlough. According to his service records he returned to duty.
According to a post on Findagrave:
"He was shot in the mouth, and was greatly disfigured. He never had his photo taken again after that. Towards the end of his life, he found the headstone of the man who had carried him wounded from the battle field, he did not know he had died. He sat down and cried."
