LANSING, MI (WHTC) - Two Civil War era-style Parrott cannons have been installed on the state Capitol lawn and will be fired during renactment ceremonies tomorrow commemorating the 150th anniversary of the end of the War Between the States. State senators Mike Kowall and Steve Bieda led a two-year, privately-funded campaign that raised 47 thousand dollars to replace the original cannons from a Michigan-based battery during the Civil War that were taken down and probably melted as scrap during World War II.

The cannon re dedication ceremony had maybe 700-1000 people there. This is an original cannon the Loomis Battery used at The Battle of Chickamauga, Due to safety concerns the replacement cannons are not able to fire.
