American Civil War Sites and Memories of 2016

Oh, I almost forgot!

Carol and I attended this year's Confederate Memorial Day ceremony at Baltimore's Loudon Park cemetery.

I'd heard about Baltimore's "Confederate Hill" cemetery, but never visited. It wasn't that easy to find.

Nevertheless, we finally located the gathering. UDC was out in full flower:

The Maryland SCV ceremonial guard, too. They did a great job:

I think we try to organize and beautify a grave yard because we dread the possibility that there is no organization or beauty in death. I'm not sure, but I think so.

Although not as extensive as Bill's travels, I still managed to cover a bit of ground containing Civil War history; of course there was the September to Remember at Gettysburg:

Then following that, a visit to Antietam:

And from there, side trips to Shephardstown:

And South Mountain:

And I was able to share my trips with my 21 year old son!

I have been taking him on history trips every year since he was 9 years old.

He loves it!!!

Bill
It was my great pleasure to meet up with Bill and Neil as our paths crossed in VA.... hopefully not for the last time!

Gettysburg visits with my Dad, taking him to places on the battlefield he'd never been before...top of Big Round Top, East Cavalry Battlefield, and Neill Avenue where we were given an impromptu tour by Dean Schultz. All day tours with Timothy Smith and Garry Adelman. If I remember, I'll post pix tomorrow.

My wife and I just returned home last night from O'ahu, Hawai'i. My wife's mother passed away on December 28th, 2016 and we buried her at this national cemetery. My father-in-law is a 27 year Navy Veteran (Korean and Vietnam Wars). He will also be buried next to my mother-in-law one day.

Can you tell me, what home is the house in corinth? Looks like there's a sign in front, too, did you get a shot of that?
Would love to know.

Your photography is fantastic.
