Six historic guns with Tennessee ties

The Tennessee State Museum takes pride in its collection of weapons and other artifacts from the Civil War. The Tennessean took a tour - guided by chief curator Dan Pomeroy - of the museum's historic gun exhibits. Now you can learn more about six firearms with ties to Tennessee. You also can see them in person by visiting the museum located at 505 Deaderick St. in Nashville.

Dan sits on the Board of Advisors of the Tennessee Civil War National Heritage Area with me and is a great guy, a great historian and a great promoter of all things Civil War.

They used to display "Forrest's Colt .38 Navy Revolver" as though it was one he actually carried and used; currently ( as of May, 2013, anyway ) they more honestly display what is probably the same gun with a more honest description of it as being only one of a lot that Forrest had ordered for distribution to his command. They also have a rifle converted from original flint to percussion that supposedly belonged to Davy Crockett ( NOT Old Betsy ) that I'm surprised to not see here.
