Dec. 21 was the 150th Anniversary of the Louisiana Black Code.
Black Codes initially developed locally in Louisiana. Many parishes enacted black codes before the state legislature took action.
Local laws often banned blacks from being on the streets after a curfew hour. In many cases, blacks were not allowed to reside in a town or city unless they were living with an employer.
