Yaupon Tea. A Southern substitute for tea made by boiling leaves and twigs of the yaupon tree then adding molasses and milk.

You need to be careful not to make Yaupon Tea too strong as it will make you throw up.

The Indians of eastern North and South Carolina, and probably elsewhere where, made the “Black drink” deliberately too strong to achieve that effect -- it was part of a yearly renewal ceremony.
