I heard Lincoln's likeness went for $8500 over the weekend. Which was also the top seller. Congrats to him, well done Sir.

I never visited the Hall of Presidents. I did look at photos after they announced the closing and auction. Like Farawayfreind said, many of these wax figures didn't look realistic.

I make many daytrips to Gettysburg so museum visits are not on my itinerary. We rarely even stop for lunch. My battlefield time is just too important to me.

But it is sad to see any business fail. Been by that place a lot and seeing the busts of Abe and Ike out front always warranted a salute from me.

Has it been announced what is going into that building? Hopefully not another ghost tour.

Hey Wally,as far as what maybe going in the building part of me wants to make a joke here put its probably best to just leave it alone.

Oh I know about the Ghosts of Gettysburg. I have been to Gettysburg a lot since 1966. I have taken countless photos including many in the Triangular field. I have been to areas around the battlefield at night including Sachs Bridge. I have stayed at B&B's that were civil war hospitals. But I have not seen a thing.

Now a friend of mines wife is a big believer in ghosts. She brings ghost hunting equipment to Gettysburg. I can't believe what you can buy to hunt ghosts (where is Bill Murray and Dan Ackroyd when you need them).

I have literally taken thousands of Gettysburg photos and I only have one that has a dreaded dust orb. But to her that photo was definitive proof of the paranormal. That photo is below.

I do shutter to think what could go into that building!

Taking the picture into the light created an orb?

I sincerely hope it is dust and not Elon Farnsworth out for his daily ride. For some reason that photo quality is poor. There are actually 3 orbs in that photo. The photo I took 2 seconds prior had 2 orbs. I took that photo last March 7th in the mid afternoon. Sun was filtering through the trees.

The "orb" is glare from the angle of the lens and the sun. No spooks. LOL

Lens flare.

I heard that, of all the presidents' likenesses that were sold at this auction, the one which commanded the lowest price was that of James Monroe, which I thought was kind of surprising.

The author of the Monroe Doctrine was enormously popular in his day. When he won re-election in 1820, he would have had a clean sweep of the Electoral College, had it not been for one maverick elector who decided that the honor of being elected unanimously should be exclusively reserved for George Washington.

I guess those who bid at the auction had a "what have you done for me lately, President Monroe?" attitude.
