James Peter. :D But actually the Traveller was named Greenbrier and, I guess, Colt. Other Lee's horses (except of Longstreet) were for example Richmond and Lucy Long.

Edit - There are two interpretations of the question that I will accept. Unfortunately, Colt is not correct under the first interpretation and Lucy Long is not correct under the second.

The answer depends upon how you interpret the question.

If you are asking for the two previous names of the horse most famously known as Traveller, then the answer is Jeff Davis and Greenbrier:

"He (Traveller) was first called Jeff Davis by Andrew Johnston, who raised him. He was renamed Greenbrier by his next owner, Captain Joseph M. Broun. Lee bought the horse from Capt. Broun for $200 during his late 1861 stay in South Carolina. Lee renamed his new mount Traveller."

If you are asking for the names of the two horses that Lee owned and used prior to purchasing the horse Traveller, then the answer is Richmond and Brown-Roan:

"Although Traveller was General Lee’s favorite horse, Lee did use other horses during the course of the Civil War. When Lee purchased Traveller, his stable already contained two horses, Richmond and Brown-Roan:
Richmond, a bay stallion, was acquired by General Lee in early 1861. The General rode Richmond when he inspected the Richmond defenses. Richmond died in 1862 after the battle of Malvern Hill.
Brown-Roan was purchased by Lee in West Virginia during the first summer of the war. Also referred to as “The Roan,” the horse went blind in 1862 and had to be retired. He was left with a farmer."

If the question is about Traveller:

The iron gray horse was born in 1857 in Greenbrier County, which is now in West Virginia. He was first called Jeff Davis by Andrew Johnston, who raised him. He was renamed Greenbrier by his next owner, Captain Joseph M. Broun. Lee bought the horse from Capt. Broun for $200 during his late 1861 stay in South Carolina. Lee renamed his new mount Traveller.

Lee had two horses in his stable when he bought Traveller:

Richmond and Brown-Roan (“The Roan”)

His first name was "Jeff Davis" but when Lee purchased him he had been renamed "Greenbrier". Lee in turn renamed the horse Traveller

Edit - The official answer makes it clear that the intent of the questioner was to ask for two other names by which Traveller had been known.

However, the question could also be interpreted to be asking for the names of two other horses Robert E. Lee had in his possession at the time he acquired Traveller. Under that interpretation, Richmond and Brown-Roan would be correct answers.

My own opinion is that since the question referred to "horse" and not "horses," the first is the proper interpretation, but so many people answered based on the second interpretation that I have to conclude that it is also a reasonable interpretation. Therefore, either Jeff Davis and Greenbrier or Richmond and Brown-Roan will get credit as correct answers.

I will not accept Lucy Long or Ajax as correct answers, since the question concluded with the words "before Traveller" and Lee did not acquire Lucy Long and Ajax until after he already owned Traveller.
