Don't know how I got short end... any way i just found that Samuel Worthington Dorsey/ his 4G Grandfather John Dorsey and My 10G Grandfather (col) Edward Dorsey were brothers bothe sons of Edward Dorsey whom arrived to Maryland in 1650..
Thomas Beale Dorsey had bought the plantation in Mississipi whom Samuel intherited, and after his passing His wife Sarah left it to Davis...

Very interesting. But remember Beauvoir was never a plantation, the sandy soil so close to the beach is infertile. Instead it was built as the coastal home for a planter in Madison County, just north of Jackson.

I found this on Edward Dorsey: http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~mdannear/firstfam/dorsey/index.htm
Looks like he was in my area--Lower Norfolk County, near the head of the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River, which is now part of the city of Chesapeake--before he went to Maryland.
yep that would be the one

That is great. It is wonderful when you discover ancestors. I am trying to find out if Jefferson Davis' mother was related to my great great great grandfather. Her last name was Cook. She was born in North Carolina as was my great great great grandfather, William Cook. Their fathers were named William Cook. Still got a lot to find out.

Donna,
This adds a great sence of pride when i find info on the family ancestors..I have been fortunate with so much of the info for mine being recorded in Maryland archives and some in the history books due to the importance of the countrys history. to date I have found 3 revolutionary war ancestors all three were Lt or higher, 1 war of 1812. 2 Cw and possibly 9 more from Maryland. Now this is ll on fathers side. My mothers is another story as they came from NC in the late20 early 1930's from Boone NC. I find it a little difficult to find info on them. However I understand the Blevins/bare name was quite wide so I think I will have a little more luck once I talk to another aunt whom has a so called book with history....

Part of my city of Chesapeake and Virginia Beach are represented in the state Senate by the Honorable Harry Blevins. I wonder if he's related to your mother's side.

Dang, no officers in my line. I have two who were with Washington when Cornwallis surrendered ....privates. According to one of my great-grandfathers, my KY line was mostly noted for being hanged as horse thieves. I believed that for many years, doh... actually, there were quite a few preachers. I guess he just said that because he was sort of a populist. And a joker.
