Today at 1:00 p.m. Ranger Matt Atkinson will lead off the 2017 Winter Lecture Series at the Gettysburg National Military Park with a discussion of Longstreet's counter-march. You'll find the lecture schedule -- and a winter-long list of other presentations and special events -- here. The line-up of presentations includes a great-looking series on individual farms of the Battlefield. (And, as a kid at heart, I'm especially glad to see the Winter Reading Adventures and activities for kids 5-10 and their parents!)

Ranger Matt: The Dirty Dan Man holding court -- wish I was there, today  The 30seconds that I spent around him on the battlefield demonstrated what an incredibly engaging speaker he is. Kids running around screaming, a newborn squalling during diaper change, the sun almost completely down....and Ranger Matt soldiered on with the utmost enthusiasm!

Thanks for posting. The Sickles at Gettysburg book series looks interesting.

I'm in line for the lecture now.

25 minutes BEFORE the lecture starts? Sounds like airplane seating! Ranger Matt must be popular

Folks, if you ever make it to Gettysburg do yourself a big favor and take in one of Ranger Matt Atkinson's 2 hour battlefield walk-and-talks. He is about as good as it comes. You will be both educated and entertained---all at no charge, courtesy of the NPS.
Tips are welcome though.

Although I wasn't able to go to this one (I'm getting over bronchitis), I usually get to at least a few of the Winter Series lectures. They are always informative, and a good way to get a Gettysburg fix at a time when tromping the battlefield itself can be iffy weather-wise for many people (although I'm usually fool enough to be out there in brutal cold, wind, snow and ice).

@Frums and @rpkennedy, do you go to these lectures?

I'll see you there, @cash!

Watching today's lecture live on GNMP Facebook page!!
