Trivia Game # 55 - Week 4 Trivia Game # 55 - Week 4
Here are the questions for Week 4 of Game # 55
1. Who was the first field officer to fall, mortally wounded, at the Battle of Chickamauga?
2. The legendary story of a Confederate soldier, shot at Shiloh, being saved by a gold coin given him by his sweetheart was verified in the twenty-first century as a result of what event?
3. The fort was built at the edge of a tidal river. Much of its landward side was covered in deep swamp. The remainder of the landward side was ringed with a moat, and rows of abattis, palisades, and torpedoes (land mines) extending from the edge of the swamp to the river bank.
Unfortunately for the defenders, these obstructions were placed when the river was at the high water mark, so when the Union assault was made at ebb tide, one regiment simply approached along the unobstructed beach that was formed and stormed the walls of the fort. Name the fort and the regiment which charged along the beach.
4. During the war, two opponents for congress engaged in a duel. One was killed, the other entered congress and subsequently ran for reelection unopposed. Name the two duelists.
5. A medal of Honor recipient, he was a private when wounded in the thigh at Gainesville, a corporal when wounded in the shoulder at Gettysburg, a sergeant when wounded in the chest during the Overland Campaign, and a 2nd lieutenant when he lost a leg during the Siege of Petersburg; all this before his nineteenth birthday. Name this intrepid survivor.
Answers are due by 6pm (eastern) on Saturday, October 11. Good Luck!
