Trivia Game # 54 - Week 1

Time to begin a new game. New players are welcome to join the game at any time, but the first week of any game is always an especially good time to join.
Here are the questions for Week 1 of Game # 54

1. Who was given a deathbed promotion to Major General by President Lincoln?

2. In May 1862, during the defense of Richmond, when then Confederate commander Joseph Johnston was wounded and taken out of action, to whom did President Jefferson Davis turn over command?

3. A native of a Central European country, he served on the staffs of both Gen. John C. Fremont and Gen. Julius Stahel. In 1865 (not 1864) he was appointed U.S. Consul to a South American country. Name him.

4. After the brigadier general commanding his brigade was mortally wounded during Pickett’s Charge, this colonel, a great-grandson of a famous Virginian American Revolution figure, succeeded in command of the brigade. Name him.

5. The tune of a famous Confederate marching song, which was first performed in Jackson, Mississippi in 1861, was copied from an Irish song about a horse-drawn two wheeled carriage on which passengers sit sideways. Name the Confederate song.

Answers are due by 6pm (eastern) on Saturday, July 19. Good Luck!

Default Correction on question 3

On question 3 there is a correction: the appointment was made in 1865. You may change your answer or not accordingly.

Sorry for the confusion.
